Welcoming our winter birdsHello Nicky, This month marks the arrival of millions of migrant birds as they fly to the UK from colder climes. Watch for flocks of redwings and fieldfares, fresh from Scandinavia and Iceland, to feast on the berries found in our hedgerows, fields, parks and even gardens. Wetlands too are enjoying an influx of ducks, geese and swans, with nature reserves such as RSPB Lough Foyle welcoming whooper swans as they arrive from their Arctic breeding grounds. More birds can make for a truly wild spectacular, with estuaries like The Wash beside RSPB Snettisham enjoying huge flocks of wading birds including knot, plovers and dunlins, as they race from the incoming tide.Autumn spectacle |
