27,915 supporters PETITION UPDATE Legal Action Against NHS Homeopathy in UK
Homeopathy Heals Me 28 Apr 2015 —

Dear Homeopathy Supporters, A very worrying thing is happening that I need to alert you to. A skeptic organisation, ‘The Good Thinking Society’ is trying to get rid of all NHS homeopathy throughout Britain, starting with Liverpool. It has threatened the Liverpool Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) with legal action over its £30,000 per annum funding of homeopathy, and they appear to be bending to the pressure and have pledged to review it.  http://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/…/liverpool-nhs-review-30k-h… Since the above article came out on 12th April, another even more serious one was published in the Daily Telegraph yesterday. The Good Thinking Society has written to at least 20 more CCGs around Britain calling for them to review their spending on homeopathy. Apparently North Somerset and South Gloucestershire pay around £200,000 a year on treatments for Bristol Homeopathic Hospital and the total UK annual spend for NHS homeopathy is around £3 million. Dr. Sarah Woollaston, Chair of the Commons Health Select Committee is backing this legal action! (David Tredinnick MP, long time homeopathy supporter, also on this Committee, has been informed). http://www.telegraph.co.uk/…/Homeopathy-on-the-NHS-to-be-re… Even the doctors magazine Pulse, has published an article entitled ‘Up to 30 CCGs may face Legal Threat for Funding Homeopathy’ http://www.pulsetoday.co.uk/…/up-to-30-ccgs-may-…/1/20009804 The Good Thinking Society was started with seed money from long time skeptic Simon Singh (he and Prof. Ernst wrote the book ‘Trick or Treatment’) and has links with the North West Skeptical Events Ltd., which put on a skeptics conference in Manchester last weekend called QEDCon. QEDCon has promised to match any donations the Good Thinking Society raises for their legal challenges (at the time of writing £3,597) on Just Giving https://www.justgiving.com/Good-Thinking-Society-Appeal If this gets any worse we will be fighting to save NHS homeopathy around the country and those of you who have signed this Petition will need to write to your Clinical Commissioning Group to complain, ask them whatever happened to Patient Choice, and tell them the benefits you have received from homeopathy. People, you need to act! Start with Liverpool – inundate them with phone calls and letters! http://www.liverpoolccg.nhs.uk/Contact_Us/ If necessary you may need to organise demonstrations outside these CCGs! The so called Good Thinking Society people are nothing short of medical fascists and shouldn’t be allowed to get away with this! Long Live Homeopathy! Louise Mclean, LCCH MHMA.
