The Sacral Chakra, also called as ‘Svadhisthaan’ Chakra,
is one of the most misunderstood and under-utilized
of our dormant energies.
Almost everyone who knows about Chakras thinks that
the sacral chakra is only about Sexual prowess.
The Sacral Chakra isn’t only about your sexual
Yes, when your Sacral Chakra is awakened,
you look at sex as a fulfilling, pleasurable and
It enables you to enjoy passionate, long-lasting sex
with your partner.
You experience mind-blowing orgasms.
You attract the right partners and thus have a healthy
and happy relationship which in turn makes you a better person.
But, there is much more to the Sacral Chakra.
The energy that is deep asleep in our Sacral Chakra
is the ‘Creative’ Energy.
The Shandilya Upanishad credits all our creative endeavors
to the energy of the Sacral Chakra.
It states that “all our creative actions
originate from the Sacral Chakra,
Take a tangible form under the influence of the Throat Chakra
and manifest into physical world using the Third-Eye Chakra energy.”
Swati is a student of mine.
She teaches marathi creative writing at the local university.
(Marathi is the native language spoken in the State of Maharashtra, IN)
Apart from teaching she is also a hobbyist playwright
and also contributes articles to a local newspaper.
She approached me for a complete chakra
Her experience while practicing Sacral Chakra
Meditation was particularly unique.
At first she would feel slight pressure on the
right half of her head.
And then after a few minutes, she would feel as if
the right half of her brain was being pulled and stretched.
And as she concluded the meditation,
she would feel normal again.
This is an amazing example where the creative energy takes charge.
As we know, the left hemisphere of the brain controls
the right side of our body.
While, the right hemisphere of the brain controls the
left side of our body.
Swati is right handed, like most of the people.
Hence, the left hemisphere of her brain is
more developed than her right side.
The function of our left brain is ‘Logical’ while,
the function of our right brain is ‘Creative’.
Now, while performing the meditation, Swati’s dormant
creative energy was tweaked and was being pulled out of a slumber.
This creative energy on discovering an imbalance
at her subtle body level was attempting to achieve
an equilibrium between the left and right hemispheres
of her brain on a sub-conscious level.
This experience continued for a few days and
I had a chat with Swati recently.
She told me that the quality of her work has now
She had developed a healthy relation with her students
using some unique teaching methods
And, her articles now had more finesse and depth to them.
Many of her regular readers had written back to her,
appreciating the same.
She also told me that now whenever she starts any creative
work, she first performs a few Sacral Chakra exercises and then
gets down to work.

Physical effects of Sacral Chakra Imbalance and Weakness:
If your Sacral Chakra is closed, weak or out of balance, its physical effects are very serious.
They will manifest as sexual dysfunction, depression and addiction.
Let’s quantify them, studies have shown, depression in America costs the society $210 Billion per year, while medicines used to treat depression cost upward of $500 per month per patient.
Addiction in America costs the society, $600 Billion per year. (the cost of lives lost and property damaged due to post-drinking behavior not included)
Also the addiction rehab costs upwards of $5000 per year per patient.
Let’s get down to the Sacral Chakra exercises:
Locating the Sacral Chakra-
– Stand up straight.
– Place the thumb of your dominant hand on your Navel.
– Stretch your hand and go one full hand measure down.
– Locate the point where the tip of your little finger is touching. (the point usually is on the genitals.)
– This is the Location of your Sacral Chakra. (Swadhisthaan Chakra)
Stand straight with your legs shoulder length apart, and toes pointing forward.
Slightly bend your knees and place your hands on your thighs just above the knees.
Take a deep breath.
As you exhale, touch your chin to the top of your chest and bring your lower abdomen forward as much as you comfortably can.
Then as you inhale, lift up your chin and move back your lower abdomen as much as you comfortably can.
Keep repeating these movements for 3 minutes.
(those who cannot perform this exercise owing to physical constraints, leave it and perform only the Mudra.)
Sacral Chakra Mudra
This Mudra can be performed while being seated, in a standing position or lying in bed.
Concentrate on your breathing to relax and feel comfortable.
Join both the palms together like in the Indian salutation ‘Namaste’.
Then interlace and bend the Ring fingers and the Little fingers of both the hands within the palms.
Touch the tips of the Index fingers together
Cross the Middle fingers over the Index fingers.
Touch the tip of the Middle fingers to the tip of the Thumbs and press slightly.
Press the heels of both the palms together.
Hold this Mudra in front of your chest.
Perform this Mudra for 10-12 minutes.
Using these exercises, we’ve stimulated your Sacral Chakra.
Now observe yourself throughout the day. observe how you react to various situations and how you deal with people around you.
For greater effects you can also perform these exercises in the evening and tomorrow morning.
